've been told I have no right to be upset "because being skinny isn't a bad thing." That's exactly my point. It's not a bad thing, well it wouldn't be. But the thing is I'm reminded of it at every turn. I've been made fun of for it and alienated because of it. It's called gaslighting I believe. People aren't making comments with the intention of causing harm, but the comments aren't coming from a place of love. Most of society has recognized that it isn't cool to body shame someone who's overweight. Imagine being introduced to a mutual friend and saying "wow you're fast!" Upon meeting them. Imagine walking to class with a buddy, you notice they're sweating, so you chuckle and tell them they've gotta lose some weight so they won't be so hot anymore. Most people would never let themselves say those kinds of things or act that way, but if you're skinny. Once or twice I've lost it a bit when being reminded that I'm skinny via unsolicited comment about my weight and how I should be eating. On those rare occasions, my response was to simply flip whatever they said back on them, no segway. "Wow, you're looking a bit fat! You need to eat less" or "Have you gotten even fatter since I saw you last?!" Some people are immediately overwhelmed with disgust, and for some, you can see the arithmetic being carried out by the expressions on their faces.
