Just remember you mean the world to that dog and hopefully that keeps you going when times are rough and youre feeling like regressing. He's your buddy and you gotta take care of him. Hope your dog makes you as happy as mine have. Congrats on being sober 3 months! Please take good care of the dog, dont let him down! He needs you more than you need him! I drank a liter of booze a day for a decade. I’d wake up and hit the bottle before doing anything. Been sober for... shit... I lost track. Like four years? Speaking as a recovering addict myself. The usual advice is to start with a plant and see if you can keep that alive for a year first. Then get a dog, and if you can handle keeping the dog for a year start considering a relationship. Well people in AA would not be thrilled, you are newly sober and using the dog as a crutch, you have not been taking care of yourself for however long you were drinking and now have another thing relying on you. Three months sober is great but not really a point to take a step like this
