And near the top of the list for welfare users per 1000 population. Combine those with their not so strong economy and you get a major deficit I guess. It’s also very expensive for both residents and businesses to live and run here. We’re a one-trick pony with tourism, but even trying to run a company based on tourism is an uphill battle on the islands. So a lack of business opportunities = not a lot of jobs to go around, unfortunately. Our healthcare is rated first though. Southern Illinoisan here. Most of the people in my area want Chicago to be its own state because of how much they think the city raises our taxes. Also because Chicago makes us a blue state and “controls” voting and legislation. If we separated from Chicago, we’d easily be one of the poorest states in the nation. I’m not sure how that would be good for anybody, but Trump Nation down here thinks it’s a good idea.
