 Parts of California want to secede from our state as well because they hate SF and LA. It would be nice to see how that works out for them if it actually ever happens. So when the Oroville dam had a risk of bursting, all I heard was Republicans in that part of the state complaining about how the big city liberals don't care about them. The dam was national news and everyone was talking about it in California. Meanwhile, in my city of San Jose, we were experiencing historical flooding that forced 50,000 people out of their homes. And we didn't get any national media attention whatsoever. I bet half the city didn't even know the flooding was occurring. Instead, all of the focus was on the rural Oroville area and how neglected they were by the big cities that subsidize their way of life. I bet you none of them have any idea how serious the flooding was in my city, the biggest city in Northern California.I don't mind my tax dollars going to subsidize rural areas. We're one nation, and we should be united. Rural areas provide a benefit to the US, and so I don't mind that our money goes to keep them going. But it really bugs me that they don't give the same respect to the cities that fund them.

 I'm sure this is debatable and everyone has their own preferences - but I think Hispanic people, pound for pound, tend to be some of the strongest everyday life people. It’s just benign cancer... until it’s malignant. These last four years have shown the uneducated south as metastatic. We both grew up in pretty rural backward-ass areas full of hateful, self-spiting Trump voters. I never totally identified with it, but he definitely leaned conservative with his upbringing.
