They’re free to be homemakers if they want and that results in a more balanced work/life situation for both parties. It doesn’t work in countries that have societally moved to expect women to work too like the West and economically it probably hinders Eastern Europe somewhat. But it makes them reasonably happy and gives them an arrangement they’re comfortable with, even without the extra money. Not outdated at all
