 I live two hours from Arches. I've made the trip a few times. One of the most amazing times there, it started pouring down rain. All the monoliths turned into gigantic waterfalls, the slick rock turned colors and was shining light never forget that I was so close to just not going. As far as western-ish national parks (I’m in Texas), we went to the Grand Canyon, Arches, Zion, Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, and Sequoia over the course of two of our road trips. They are all unforgettable in their own way, but Grand Canyon and Arches are on top as far as total “oh my god” moments for me. Both of them just felt totally alien but beautiful. I’d never seen anything like them. It almost made me feel eerie, or creepy like there was some big picture out there we just weren’t understanding. Anyway, I’m sure that sounds weird, but they were both just incredible.
