We are such a weird state we vote for policies that are somewhat decent then vote in scumbag republicans who overturn them or keep trying to put them back on the ballot (see the anti-puppy mill thing we passed they overturned or the anti-gerrymandering thing we voted for they just put back on the ballot and hid in a sneaky way. The economic divergence between red and blue states is staggering — and growing rapidly. While income and education levels are increasing at a swift rate in Democratic areas, they are stagnant or declining in red states, which is a recipe for disaster. The core of why the south committed mass treason and attacked America was economic. They had a massive "cheat" in that they used millions of people as slaves, and they did not want to change their economy to something sustainable and non-slave-based. They had little manufacturing. They didn't want to tax themselves to build better roads or pay for railways, which left the Confederacy in a difficult position to actually fight the war they started.
