If I have a hobby or task, comparing it to my hourly rate at my 40hr/week job is useless. That true, and I absolutely agree. I'd say my time is worth at least $100 an hour. Unfortunately, nobody will pay me that much, especially when I'm sitting at home enjoying my free time, so putting that value in my free time seems pointless. We used to do this kind of thing for Alzheimer's patients. It makes them calmer and gives them a simple task they feel they can accomplish. Side benefit, they're busy doing that and not wandering. Sorting clothes is also a good one. I wouldn't recommend beads though as they are too small for older hands. If I was handed this task, I would have spent a week writing a program to detect color and sort it out in some sort of ramp mechanism instead of doing it by hand in a day.
