The first carbonated drink to be sold to the public was invented by Swiss watchmaker and amateur scientist J. J. Schweppe in 1783, who sold his delicious "sparkling water" to thirsty customers in Geneva. In just seven years, he was doing business so fast that he moved the factory to London and introduced a new flavor, sparkling lemon, to stand out from competitors who were trying to imitate his drink. The surprise hanging - a prisoner was sentenced to death by hanging, but as an additional punishment he was told he'd be hung sometime in the next week, but he'd not be told until the morning of. He reasons that it can't be Friday, because that's the last possible day, and so it wouldn't be a surprise, which means it also can't be Thursday, because it can't be Friday and so if he's alive by Thursday then he needs to hang that day, apply the same reasoning to the other days of the week... He died Wednesday, caught by surprise. I like this one too. My solution is that prisoner fucked himself. By his logic, he wouldn't get hanged, but by concluding he wouldn't get hanged he made it so he'd be surprised on any day, including Friday. Over here dryers are very uncommon and most of us dry our clothes out in a line or indoors with a drying rack. During summer you can get stuff dry within the same day, but during winter you have to strategically do your laundry 2 to 3 days before you want to use a specific clothing item. Sometimes even finishing it off by putting your clothes on top of radiators (most work with warm water so it's not a fire hazard). And it may still be a bit damp by then. It's so frustrating.
